Manufactured by Vanderman Manufacturing circa 1897.
It is a rare Wells-Fargo & Co. heavy duty shipping chest.
This was used when valuables were to be shipped since it was much stronger than regular wooden chests. Steel chest bound with hardwood slats and iron corners. Chests like this were used for many years until the Wells-Fargo & Co. Express ceased to exist. It was not marked with the Wells-Fargo Logo since that would have attracted too much attention to them.
Dimensions: 26w x 19d x 15h
Complete fabrication. These were tool chests made by Vanderman Heating and Plumbing company, later to become Vanderman manufacturing.
